Which fonts will break
Of the four new signs, ö and ç live in Latin-1 and are in almost every font. ğ and ş are in Latin Extended-A, and that is where fonts stumble. With the tutuq belgisi ʼ it is worse still.

The 200 most popular families. What we checked is what Google actually serves: the font file may have the letter while the slice that reaches the browser does not. Lato is exactly that case.

The tutuq belgisi is its own problem
The tutuq belgisi ʼ is U+02BC, the fifth sign of the alphabet. Many fonts do not have it, so the browser borrows it from another one and the line jumps. Substituting a straight apostrophe ' is not a fix — it is a different character.
What to do
If a font is broken, change the font. There is no rescue inside the family: a browser and InDesign alike will fetch the missing letter from somewhere else, and the text will look patched.

How it was checked. For every font we looked in its character table (cmap) for U+00F6, U+011F, U+015F, U+00E7 and U+02BC — by program, not by eye. System fonts came from this computer; Google Fonts were downloaded the way a browser receives them. Checked on: 2026-09-17
