Fine-tuning ▾
In the old orthography the mark in Isʼhoq did exactly one job: it kept sh from being read as a single sound. Now that ş is a letter of its own, the separator has nothing left to do — Isʼhoq simply becomes Ishoq. The revised spelling rules have not been published yet, so the choice is yours.
The general rule gets proper nouns and loanwords wrong: Chelsea must not turn into Çelsea. Our dictionary routes such words around the rule.

The new alphabet in brief
The 2026 reform changed four signs in the Uzbek Latin script: oʻ to ö, gʻ to ğ, sh to ş, ch to ç. ng is no longer counted as a separate letter, though the text itself does not change. The alphabet has 28 letters plus the tutuq belgisi ʼ.
